I liked to bring my cheesy japaleno cornbread muffins to office parties (past tense only because of the lack of employment, should be gf, too. Haven't made them recently because a batch makes a bunch and when we have company, someone is almost always opposed to some spice.) Definitely not overlooked, didn't have to make enough for everyone, and leftovers were easy to take with or send home with people. And easy to make in advance. (Will email the recipe, if you want it)

I think your idea of individual somethings is a good idea, since people can also grab an extra to take home and don't need a plate for it.

I was just at a "bring a dish" party, and the two things that nobody brought were fruit and cheese. I'm not sure what you can do with that information, but it'll be hard to compete with everyone's best dessert (although truffles come to mind).

Hey there!

I have a hard time picking beer out for food, so I usually just go with whatever is on hand. I wouldn't do anything really dark...but I think most anything else would work. A lager would probably work okay... though something with a more distinct flavor might work better. I think an ale is probably best. But yeah, I wouldn't go buy different beer for it.

I used Sam Adam's Irish Red the time I made cheese soup, and that seemed to work pretty well.

I'm here from the DDC :)

That looks awesome, and I've never even heard of it! I grew up eating creamed beer on toast (similar concept, but with chipped Carl Buddig beef rather than cheese as the main ingredient), and I haven't had that in a while due to the nasty nitrates/msg etc in the meat. But THIS looks wonderful.

So you would recommend what sort of beer exactly? Would a lager be too light?

You should be able to pop brown sugar into the microwave for a few seconds to soften it right up
